Mother’s Day in the US is this weekend, and in lieu of a written reflection this week, I’m sharing a video of me reading an excerpt from six to carry the casket and one to say the mass. The book takes its title from this essay, and the essay takes its title from her explanation to people who were astounded that she had seven sons. “Well, God gave me seven sons for a reason. Six to carry the casket, and one to say the mass.”
